Junior Division
(8 and 9 year old players
)

The information contained here is to provide an explanation of the BSC modifications of FIFA rules for the Junior Division of our in-house soccer program.

Field Specifics

The goal uprights, crossbar & nets utilized are proportional to the field size.  The dimensions of the fields may vary slightly from season to season to accommodate for the number of players on each team.

Reduced Field Size Game Focus:

By playing soccer on a reduced size field with fewer players, a child is able to discover soccer on his/her own terms.  The players are being introduced to additional soccer concepts.   FIFA Rules are starting to be more rigidly enforced to prepare the player for the Intermediate and Senior Divisions.  We continue to promote good sportsmanship and teamwork.

We want the players to learn and have fun.

No scores or standings are kept.

  • Each team consists 9 players on the field at a time (8 field players and a goalkeeper).

  • Teams shall play with an equal number of players.

  • Games shall consist of four (4), fifteen (15) minute quarters.

  • There will be two (2) minute breaks between quarters and a five (5) minute break at half-time.

  • Games are considered complete after two quarters have been played.

  • Games shall NOT be rescheduled by the coaches.  Rescheduling of games shall be approved by the Director of Fields & Scheduling.

  • Game fields are proportionally sized to the number of players.

  • The coaches will referee the game if a referee is not assigned or does not show for the game.

  • Coaches SHALL NOT coach while refereeing  a game.
